This week marks the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two attacks which the US says helped end World War Two. The August 6 bombing of Hiroshima claimed 140,000 lives and three days later about 70,000 perished in Nagasaki.
Eleni Psaltis speaks to American author Susan Southard who has written the book Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War, Dr Yuki Tanaka who is a former research professor at the Hiroshima Peace Institute and attended the August 6 Hiroshima Peace Assembly in the city this week and Daniel Aldrich, an associate professor and director of Asian Studies at Purdue University in the United States.
