The Second Edition of the Autobiography of a Japanese Military Sex Slave, Maria Rosa Henson

日本軍性奴隷マリア・ロサ・ヘンソンさんの英語版自伝・第２版の出版

The second edition of Comfort Woman: A Filipina’s Story of Prostitution and Slavery Under the Japanese Military, the autobiography of a former Japanese Military Sex Slave, Maria Rosa Henson (1928-96) is now available. This new edition has an expanded version of my introduction as well as a new foreword by Cynthia Enloe. The new introduction contains a concise analysis of Japan’s current prime minister, Abe Shinzo’s involvement in the “comfort women bashing” since the early 1990s. I sincerely hope this little book will contribute to the international civil movement against the Japanese government’s appalling ploy to erase the so-called “comfort women issue” from historical records. I would also be grateful if you could utilize the new e-book version of this moving autobiography of one of the many victims of the Japanese military sex slave system.    

フィリッピンで日本軍性奴隷にされたマリア・ロサ・ヘンソンさん(1996年没)の自伝、Comfort Woman: A Filipina’s Story of Prostitution and Slavery Under the Japanese Militaryの初版本は1999年にアメリカで出版されました。拙文ながら私が解説を担当しました(日本語版は、藤目ゆきさんが翻訳された『ある日本軍慰安婦の回想』岩波書店)。このたび、この英語原書の第２版を出すことになり、私の解説を大幅に加筆し（安部晋三批判も加えました）、さらに新しくシンシア・エンロー教授による前書きも加えました。シンシア・エンローさんは、みなさんもご存知かと思いますが、軍性暴力問題や戦争が女性にもたらす様々な影響問題に関する多くの著書のあるアメリカのフェミニスト学者です。日本では、『戦争の翌朝 - ポスト冷戦時代をジェンダーで読む』　、『策略 - 女性を軍事化する国際政治』が翻訳されています。元日本軍性奴隷に対する非道な攻撃と、日本軍性奴隷制度という厳然たる歴史事実の抹消をはかっている安倍晋三政権に対抗する市民の連帯運動を、世界的な規模で強化拡大させていくための一つの資料として、被害者によるこの感動的な自伝を役立てていただければ光栄です。今年末からは比較的安価なE-book 版もできましたので、おおいに活用していただければ嬉しいです。
